What the heck is going on in the deer community? First there was the hermaphrodite deer.
Now, out of Wisconsin comes a deer with seven legs. And, it too has both male and female organs. Rick Lisko, who normally hunts deer with a bow, actually hit this one with his truck when it and two does ran onto the road. When Rick got out to check on the deer, he saw that it had appendages about 3 to 4 inches in length, growing from the rear legs. Then Lisko noticed a smaller appendage growing from one of the front legs. “It was definitely a freak of nature,” he said. “I guess it’s a real rarity.” He goes on to describe the extra legs as looking like crab pinchers, “It’s a pretty weird deer…It kind of gives you the creeps when you look at it.” Lisko also says that before the deer was hit, it looked as though the appendages were moving, as if they were functional.
“I have never seen anything like that in all the years that I’ve been working as a game warden and being a hunter myself,” said Warden Doug Bilgo of the state Dept. of Natural Resources, who tagged the deer on Lisko’s property. “It wasn’t anything grotesque or ugly or anything. It was just unusual that it would have those little appendages growing out like that.” Warden Bilgo took photos of the unique animal and sent information about it to DNR wildlife managers.
Not wanting to waste the venison, Rick Lisko had the deer skinned, “And by the way, I did eat it,” he said. “It was tasty.”
So I ask again, what the heck is going on in the deer community? Is there a mad scientist deep in the woods performing strange experiments and setting the animals free? Is it something in the water? In the air? Is it Global Warming? Whatever it is, it certainly is strange.
What’s next? A deer with two heads?
