Super Bowl Commercials

Super Bowl XLI is this coming Sunday, February 4th, 2007. I don’t care about the game. I don’t know anything about the teams that are in it (the Colts and the Bears). But I enjoy the commercials, and am really looking forward to them this year. Here’s a little taste of what got me so excited, Kevin Federline style: More Nationwide and K-Fed fun HERE You can find official Super Bowl XLI news and information HERE Fun facts about Nationwide: The...  Read More »

The Police Will Reunite For The 2007 Grammy Awards

I’m so excited about this bit of news. The Recording Academy has announced that The Police will perform together at the Grammys this year – 23 years after breaking up due to conflict within the band. Best known for hits like “Roxanne” and “Every Breath You Take,” The Police are Grammy winners themselves, five times over. They last performed together when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 2003. The band, made up of...  Read More »

2007 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Last night was the 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Nothing too exciting this year; in fact, I found the end to be fairly anti-climatic with Annette Benning simply saying, “Goodnight.” The two things that made my jaw drop the most were when Eddie Murphy thanked Tracey Edmonds for, “making everything right,” when accepting the award for supporting actor for Dreamgirls, and when Chandra Wilson of Grey’s Anatomy referred to Isiah Washington as...  Read More »

Betcha’ Didn’t Know…..Vol. 3. Interesting Facts.

*We owe the phrase “wet your whistle” to English pub goers long ago who would blow a whistle baked into the rim or handle of their ceramic mugs when they needed a refill. *We also owe the phrase “mind your Ps and Qs” to English pub patrons, who drank Pints and Quarts of ale. When the drinkers got out of hand, the bartender would shout, “Mind your pints and quarts and settle down!” *4,000 years ago in Babylon, it was a custom for a bride’s father...  Read More »

Who Wants A Kick-Ass Bathroom? I Do! I Do!

This contest goes right along with my obsession with bathrooms. The “Pimped Out John Sweepstakes” is Roto-Rooter’s best idea ever! The sole winner will receive a bathroom fit for multi-tasking gods, complete with a flat-panel TV, DVR, Xbox, laptop, iPod, speakers that double as the toilet paper holder, a kegerator, and of course a state-of-the-art toilet. The winner will be announced on April 25th, which – and I’m sure the Roto-Rooter marketing...  Read More »

NPR Oscar Speech Contest

UPDATE: Winning speeches were selected on February 22, 2007. …so many worthy entries that picking just one winner seemed as churlish as Judi Dench’s role in Notes on a Scandal. So the staff at NPR.org picked five winners, along with a few runners-up, and recorded them reading their entries. … winners captured the spirit of the nominees’ characters, if not always their accents. The speeches were limited to 200 words, about the length of an Oscar...  Read More »

K-Fed Urges Britney Spears To Enter Rehab

This has to be the funniest “pot calling the kettle black”* story I’ve seen in a while. According to MSNBC, Star Magazine is reporting that Kevin Federline wants Britney Spears to go to rehab – for the sake of the kids. Uhhhh……..where does K-Fed get off telling Britney to shape up? Let’s ponder the ridiculousness of that for a moment. In the magazine’s report, Kevin Federline states that he has tried “every possible angle” to get Britney...  Read More »

Attention! New Traffic Laws!

These may be valid only in California, but I thought they were worth sharing anyway. I don’t know why new traffic laws aren’t advertised more, but they’re not. Probably so the government can make more money on tickets. But that’s just my theory. 1. Unlawful use of the carpool lane – the 1st time is $1068.50 (NOT the $271, currently posted on most highways). The 2nd time is double that at $2137.00. The 3rd time it’s tripled,...  Read More »

R.I.P. Papa Denny Doherty (1940-2007)

The world lost another pioneering singer/songwriter today (1.19) when Denny Doherty, a founding member of The Mamas and The Papas, died after a short undisclosed illness. He passed away at his home in Mississauga, Ontario near Toronto, at the age off 66. The Mamas and The Papas were a Grammy winning folk/rock group off the Hippie Era, known for such classics as “Monday, Monday” and “California Dreamin’”. The band also included the late Mass Cass...  Read More »

Lindsay Lohan’s Not A Drunk, She Just Enters Rehab Like One

It was only a matter of time, really. I mean, is anyone actually surprised? In case you haven’t heard, Lindsay Lohan has officially entered rehab. Around 2:30pm yesterday she checked herself into the Wonderland Center* for treatment. I wonder if they have a Mother/Daughter program Lindsay can do with your mom. From what I hear, Dina could use some help too. Although I wish Lindsay Lohan the best, I’m certainly not going to hold my breath until she’s...  Read More »

Always Remember Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today is Martin Luther King Day. I wish the non-violent revolutionary was still here on Earth. We could really use him right about now. What would he have to say? About the war in Iraq? About sex on TV? About all the race related violence that is sadly still prevalent? …Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro...  Read More »

Did You Hear The One About The Electrocuting Moles?

Garden moles have now joined the animal revolution. It is being reported that a 63-year-old man in Zingst, Germany was killed last Thursday after electrocuting himself on a high-voltage cable meant to rid his garden of moles. But I think that’s just the cover story. I think the man, a retired construction foreman, was indeed trying to install the 380-volt cable and metal ground spikes in order to kill the moles, however, I think the moles got wind of his...  Read More »

AAA To The Rescue!

In light of the upcoming three-day weekend, I thought I would share with you a wonderful new service from AAA. Thanks to the national automobile club, drivers can now look up the gas stations along their travel route, avoiding, hopefully, being one of the 2.5 million people who run out of gas and need a roadside fill up from AAA. AAA’s free online mapping tool, TripTik, now has the ability to find the nearest and cheapest gas for about 100,000 U.S. locations...  Read More »
