trivia n. Insignificant or unessential matters; trifles.

I’ve always been a fan of trivia. I used to work in a coffee shop and we would write trivia questions on a white board. Customers would get a free cup of coffee if the got they answer right. It was so much fun deciding which random trivia question to put up each day.

Perhaps the biggest trivia question is where did the word “trivia” actually came from?

Not surprisingly, it is a Latin word. But the actual meaning is interesting: “that which comes from the street” with the plural form, “trivium” meaning “place where three roads meet, public square.”

I don’t think I ever knew that. Nor did I know there was a plural version. Did you?
