Poetry Scam. Don’t Be A Poetry Scam Victim!

The infamous “they” say there is a sucker born every minute. What they don’t say is that every 30 seconds a scammer is born. As a writer, the majority of scams I face are writing and poetry scams that come in the form of publishing contests. Right now, the biggest poetry scam going can be found at Poetry.com — a fraudulent publishing company that turns 100% of the submissions into ‘semi-finalists’. Poetry.com’s poetry scam has been...  Read More »

49th Annual Grammy Awards — Performances

The Grammys opened with the much anticipated reunion of The Police. It totally rocked! They started with Roxanne, which Sting does not really perform anymore because he can no longer hit the high notes like they should be hit. For the Grammys, he changed the melody of the song a little bit to compensate for his changed voice. It sounded modern and updated, but not in a bad or cheesy way. Next came the Dixie Chicks, introduced by folk singer Joan Baez. The...  Read More »

What ARE They Wearing? — Grammys Edition

As with other award shows, there are always some questionable fashion choices. Here are some of the outfits that made me wonder more than the others. Fun facts about the Grammys: Originally known as the Gramophone Awards, the name soon became Grammys; the Grammy itself is a golden gramophone. The Grammy is the only peer- presented award that honors artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard...  Read More »

Wise Words From Erma Bombeck

Anna Nicole Smith died yesterday at the young age of 39. I dedicate this post to her. Before her death in 1996, American humorist Erma Bombeck made a list entitledIf I Had My Life To Live Over. My mother mailed me a copy a few years ago and I found it recently while going through some random papers. I hope you enjoy her words as much as I do. They are funny and wise, and definitely worth thinking about. IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER By Erma Bombeck (written...  Read More »

R.I.P. Anna Nicole Smith (1967-2007)

Anna Nicole Smith is dead! Holy crap! Can it really be? The world will never be the same. Perhaps I’ve watched too many Soap Operas over the years, or maybe I’m just oddly overly creative, but I’m guessing there’s more to this than we think. Here’s my theory on the whole mess… Howard K. Stern got Daniel hooked on drugs, and ultimately killed him. He also got Anna Nicole addicted (which I’m sure didn’t take much...  Read More »

Britney Spears Is A Cheap Whore

You’d think someone with Britney Spear’s amount of money would give up shopping at discount and drug stores. But, Britney is in a class of her own — keeping price tags on her dresses, going barefoot into gas station bathrooms — she’ll probably never give up bargain shopping. Here are some photos of Britney visiting her favorite cheap spots. Fun facts about 7-11: In 1927, convenience retailing began simply enough when an employee...  Read More »

I See London, I See France, I See Fergie’s Underpants

I don’t think this Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction was planned. Fergie’s underwear is the same color as her dress. If she planned this, I’m sure she would have worn prettier panties. Fun facts about Fergie: Fergie appeared in more first-run episodes of Kids Incorporated (1984) than any other cast member: She was in over 100 shows from 1984 to 1989. She was also the only series regular to make a complete and continuous evolution from “littlest”...  Read More »

Shrek The Third Movie Trailer

So I’m watching American Idol — the best of the worst episode — and just saw an ad for the new Shrek movie, Shrek The Third. It looks pretty funny. Donkey and his dragon wife have flying donkey babies. And Puss is along for the ride too. Check it out the official trailer HERE Fun facts about the Shrek movies: Shrek was the first film to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, a category introduced in 2001. It’s based upon William...  Read More »

Oprah Winfrey And David Letterman’s Super Bowl Love

I’m so glad I found this! It was one of the better commercials during the Super Bowl last Sunday. The story goes that Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman have been in somewhat of a feud for years. I’m not really how it’s said to have started. I think it’s because Oprah said that Dave made mean jokes about her years and years ago. Whatever the reason, they finally made up* in 2005 and now they love each other more than ever before. It’s...  Read More »

What ARE They Wearing?

Um……riiiiight. There’s something strange in the fashion water down in Hollywood these days. Will someone please explain to me what the heck is going on? First we have Avril Lavigne as she will appear on her upcoming album cover. Then there’s Britney Spears in a sheer black dress – and what’s that? – why, it’s a price tag! Very classy Britney, very classy indeed. Below Britney Spears is singer Aubrey O’Day of Danity Kane* who seems to be channeling...  Read More »

R.I.P. Star, The Calf Born With Two Faces (Dec. 27, 2006 – Feb. 2, 2007)

Some sad news to report from the increasingly chaotic and odd world of animals – the calf born with two faces in Virginia, has died. “She was just laying there like she was sound asleep,” said Dairyman Kirk Heldreth. “It broke our hearts.” The unique calf was found on the morning of Friday, February 2nd. Heldreth assumes that Star died from complications due to the deformity. No one really expected the baby cow to survive long after birth, but it’s...  Read More »

Super Bowl XLI Commercial Round-Up

I realize it’s two days after the Super Bowl, but I was really busy yesterday. Please don’t hold it against me. I don’t know about you, but I thought the commercials were pretty darn boring this year. Aside from the Kevin Federline one, of course. I like the Pizza Hut Cheesy Bites one with Jessica Simpson proclaiming, “Cheesy bites, my one true love.” It’s really only funny because she just got divorced. Which isn’t...  Read More »

Prince’s Purple Rain Super Bowl

The game isn’t over. As of now, it’s 29 – 17, Colts leading, with just over 5 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. The commercials this year didn’t impress me much. I’ll write about those later. Here are some pictures of Prince during the Pepsi halftime show. I was quite pleased that he sang some of his old songs, including Purple Rain. A fitting song, given the weather at today’s game. Pretty soon the winning 15 second...  Read More »

Punxsutawney Phil Didn’t See His Shadow!

We’re in for an early spring. No offense to Phil, but I think Global Warming has more to do with an early spring than a groundhog not seeing his shadow. Although I could be wrong since, according to the President, Global Warming doesn’t exist. ground Phil hasn’t failed to see his shadow since 1999. According to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, since 1886, Phil has not seen his shadow 15 times and has seen it 96 times; not including the nine years...  Read More »

“Super Tonio” Is A Super Big Baby!

Antonio Vasconcelos weighs 14.5 pounds and drinks 5 ounces of milk every three hours. But here’s the catch…Antonio is a newborn – a newborn human. Born this past Monday in Cancun, Mexico to parents Teresa Alejandra Cruz, 23, and Luis Vasconcelos, 38, “Super Tonio” was born by Caesarean section (thank goodness!), and is 22 inches long. On Wednesday, Narciso Perez Bravo, the hospital’s director, said, “We haven’t found any abnormality...  Read More »

Michael Jackson’s Kids — Unmasked!!

Usually when Michael Jackson’s three children go out in public, their faces are covered. But not in Las Vegas yesterday! First up: Prince Michael (the first) and Paris; their mother is Michael Jackson’s ex-wife Debbie Rowe. Man, I wonder what’s going through her mind these days. At the time of their births, both Michael and Debbie said the children were conceived “the old fashioned” way. But I’m not convinced. I’m not even convinced that Michael...  Read More »
