Today In Entertainment History Vol. 9
JULY 9th
It was on this day in 1956 that the world was honored with the birth of the legendary actor, Tom Hanks. He was born in Concord, California (about 25 miles from my Berkeley, CA stomping grounds) and remained there with his cook father after his parents divorced when he was a baby. It was in high school where Tom Hanks discovered his love for the stage and acting. He then moved on to a Shakespeare festival for three years, before landing his plum TV role in 1980 on Bosom Buddies (clip below). The rest, as they say, is History…
Before there was Philadelphia, before Forest Gump, there was BIG.

Although the British trio known as The Police had been together since 1977, and had already released five albums, it wasn’t until this day in 1983 that they hit #1 on the music charts with Every Breath You Take, off their Synchronicity album. It was their most successful studio album, and their last.
The group has started performing together again, including a concert in Oakland (oh so close to Concord and Berkeley) on June 13th of this year. KTVU Slideshow
