FIFA 2008
So I was flipping channels a while ago and came across a soccer game. Not one to pass up the opportunity to look at men in shorts with thighs that could crack walnuts, I stopped and watched some of the game.
I’m not a total idiot when it comes to soccer, I know the rules and such. And I know that David Beckham is the hottest player out there, even when he’s throwing up on the sidelines.
Aside from the several players with long hair, I noticed that soccer is a really hard core sport, right up there with rugby. Constant running, dodging, tricky foot maneuvering, and all with only shin guards to protect you from a bunch of other guys doing the same thing. And you can’t use your hands, which is a totally natural reaction and instinct. Honestly, I liked it more than televised football.
This got me thinking. I have several friends who are borderline obsessed with the Maden Football video game series, I wonder what the soccer counterpart is. There must be one, having a video game is a sign of ultimate popularity, after all. And, of course, there is; complete with a soundtrack and soccer superstars on the cover. And, of course, there is a blog dedicated to the FIFA video game series. Now, that is a sign of ultimate popularity.
History lesson…Since 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association has overseen the world of soccer. Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, the FIFA is responsible for the organization and governance of the sport’s major international tournaments, the largest one being the FIFA World Cup, which has been held since 1930.
