I got an email earlier today from a friend of mine about a show his band is doing tonight at Blakes on Telegraph in Berkeley. Since I am unable to attend, I decided to dedicate a post to them. They are Electric Vagina, and they totally rock! Of course, we came from the same hometown, so I may be a little biased.
This video doesn’t do them nearly enough justice, so you’ll just have to take my word for it that they kick ass…
How can you not love a band with song openings like, “Girls want a guy with a great big Johnson.”
The hometown we all came from is Albany, CA by the way. And Electric Vagina pays homage in the most wonderful way – with a song pointing out all the highs and lows of our great little town. Albany is one square mile, jammed in between Berkeley and the Pacific Ocean, and is home to Golden Gate Fields and The Solano Stroll.
Oh, and Albany Hill is built on an Indian Burial Ground. Doesn’t that sound lovely?
Albany’s heritage is intertwined with its location along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, its temperate climate and its unique natural features. This environment supported the City’s first known residents, a tribe of Native Americans known as the Costanoans (coast dwellers) or Ohlone, who lived at the base of Albany Hill along Cerrito Creek. Shell fragments and grinding rocks found at Creekside Park serve as a reminder of these people who lived in the Albany area until the early 19th Century, when the Spanish land barons arrived in California.
