A little over a year ago I had the pleasure of a half hour phone conversation with Mr. Hugh Martin, composer of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". He's pushing 100 , sharp as a tack, and for a classic film fanatic like myself, it was like talking with God. He did, after all, write one of the most popular and enduring Christmas songs of all time. (Not to mention The Trolley Song, The Boy Next Door, etc, etc...) F.Y.I. - Mr. Martin ADORED Judy, but hated his tenure at MGM in the 40's - he says everyone was so status obsessed on the lot that he found it oppresive and depressing. Anyone out there who loves the film and its classic tunes as much as I do might consider sending him a card and letting him know how much you've enjoyed his work - I'm sure it would make his day!
