Give me a baa-rake South Carolina! Investigating the picture of Michel Phelps smoking pot? Really? How many robbers and rapists are going free while you waste man hours on a silly picture?
Sheriff Leon Lott said in a statement today (Tuesday), “The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is making an effort to determine if Mr. Phelps broke the law.”
“If he [broke the law] … he will be charged in the same manner as anyone else. The sheriff has a responsibility to be fair, to enforce the law and to not turn a blind eye because someone is a celebrity.”
You know what Richland County Sheriff’s Department? That’s just stoopid. You don’t necessarily have to turn a blind eye, just prioritize. Leave pot smoking college kids alone and concentrate on larger issues. You know, like murder.
And poor Michael Phelps who was thrown into the spotlight because of his god-given talent had to give the obligatory public apology and apologize for basically being a twenty-something guy doing twenty-something guy things.
“I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me.”

Poor Michael. Which of us has NEVER broken a law? Did we ever go over the speed limit at any time? At some point, we probably have but there was no cop to catch us. How many have had a drink or two at a bar after work and then driven home? I don’t see the police hanging around bars to pull someone over to give them a breathalizer test. I wonder how many would fail?
I agree with the post above by coffee. People should not look to celebrities to be their moral guide.
I also agree with your article, Hilary. The police should spend their time trying to solve “real” crimes. Like the remains (skull and bones)found, of nurse, Maria Fernandez, who had been missing for months!
But here you go, the police come into possession of a photo (of a “celebrity” no less!) of someone doing something illegal, so they’re going to trounce on that to do their job. Yeah, right! I see that more as a publicity stunt, is my opinion.

Hee hee hee….. I just heard a blurb on the news about charges against Michael Phelps will be dropped because prosecutors can’t prove that was MARIJUANA in the BONG (or water pipe.) Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk….probably one of the easiest ways to get out of a police f’up. Lucky it’s legit!
Evidence is gone, like up in smoke…… Ha ha ha ha ha! (Mybad.)
