Tom Ammiano Wants To Increase California’s Cash Flow With Weed
I have been saying for years that California should legalize marijuana and tax the hell out of it. Just think of all the money the State would make. We could very well get rid of our deficit.
Well it finally looks like I’m not the only one who feels this way. Thank you Assemblyman Tom Ammiano!

SACRAMENTO, CA — A California lawmaker is pushing a proposal to legalize the sale of marijuana to increase the state’s cash flow.
<p>Assmeblyman [sic] Tom Ammiano (D – San Francisco) introduced the legislation Monday, that would slap a $50 an ounce tax on retail sales of the drug.</p>
Like alcohol, no one under the age of 21 could buy marijuana, a drug that is federally prohibited.
A study by the Board of Equalization found that Ammiano’s proposal could bring in $1.3 billion a year in tax revenue.
“It would relate to saving a lot of money on law enforcement, on incarceration. It would also help the environment because as you know, rogue plantations of marijuana are not exactly eco-friendly,” said Ammiano.
In 1996, California legalized medical marijuana. But, that has not stopped the feds from raiding and shutting down pot clinics and prosecuting growers and sellers.
Legalize it, don’t criticize it!

I’m all for legalizing the sale and use of marijuana. Taxation of it would bring in much needed money.
I was thinking, however some money should be set aside to deal with whatever ill effects the act of legalization of the green bud. As in perhaps more mouth or lung cancer or obesity IF it were to happen. Money raised HOPEFULLY can be used to improve and better our education system and health care.
I don’t recall knowing of any study as to the effect of using the green would have on society. Does it lead to “harder” drugs? I don’t tend to believe so. I’ve never heard of s stoner robbing a bank or committing mass murder or mayhem. Maybe society would learn to slow down a bit.
Just random musings on my part….
