I don’t normally do American Idol posts, but I didn’t feel right going to bed tonight without sharing these performances with you.

Tuesday night the American Idol contestants sang songs from the movies. The special guest instructor was Quentin Tarantino, who obviously is not a singer, but is one of the best movie directors out there, and uses music in his films in a very precise way.

First up was Allison Iraheta who sang I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith, from the movie Armageddon. Allison totally bugs me and so does that song (although I love Aerosmith, I just think this song was too overplayed).

Anoop Desai went second singing Everything I Do I Do for You by Bryan Adams, from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Blah. Anoop is Mr. Balad; he’s also Mr. Boring.

Third was Adam Lambert. I’ll talk about him later.

Fourth was Matt Giraud; he sang Have You Ever Loved a Woman, also by Bryan Adams, but from the movie Don Juan DeMarco starring Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando. Matt played the piano during his performance, but I wasn’t very impressed or all that entertained. Guess I wasn’t alone because he got the lowest number of votes – but at the last minute, Simon and the other judges saved him. Matt doesn’t do much for me; I wouldn’t have missed him.

Danny Gokey sang fifth with Endless Love by Lionel Richie from the movie of the same name. Danny’s a good singer, and has a sympathetic back story, but I just don’t think he’s the next American Idol.

Kris Allen was sixth and sang Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova from the film Once. I basically feel about Kris the way I feel about Matt. Snooze fest.

Last up was Lil Rounds who sang The Rose by Bette Midler, from The Rose. I think she could have done better. I agree with Simon – Lil’s performance was too soft, too middle of the road, “Some nice moments. No excuses anymore. Not the artist we met at first.” [Source]

Ok, so Adam Lambert. Mark my words, this dude is gonna be a star! A great big shining star. First: he’s got the look, second: he’s got a great unique voice, third: he knows how to command an audience and gives an awesome performance.

Adam sang Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf, from the movie Easy Rider. Once again, I agree with Simon, “Incredible vocally.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the one and only Adam Lambert:

Miley Cyrus performed on the results show, and all I have to say is…..Miley Cyrus totally sucks! Besides having a horse mouth and being mistaken for a 40-year-old at least once a week, she’s a horrible singer! I did not like Miley Cyrus on American Idol. Not one bit.

This is the best video I can find right now of horrible Miley…

Jennifer Hudson’s performance, however, is a completely different story. Man, this girl has got some chops!

  1. Elke Says:

You pretty much nailed it. There’s one exception though: Adam Lambert *is* a star by now. There’s no way back. Whether he wins the whole thing, most likely, or not, he’s a star and people will come to see his shows, movies and what not and certainly will by his albums too.

You’re absolutely right Elke – Adam IS a star. :)
