Ok, so I totally had it in my head that I would come home from the office today and crank out some posts. But then I said something to my boyfriend which took my night in a different direction.
Have you ever had a phone call that has made you so mad you can’t even grasp your true level of madness? And then you have to be the bigger person and not make things worse by biting back. But all you really want to do is bite – and bite big!
Please do not take that to mean I am mad at my boyfriend, as I most certainly am not.
Let’s put it this way…..I am a 30-year-old adult woman dating a 32-year-old adult man whose friends all seem to be stuck in high school. And who all seem to be acing Drama!
So in an effort to deflect my anger away from those I quite possibly will have to be friendly with for the rest of my life, I’m going to update you on the Miss California Carrie Prejean debacle – another topic that brings me much anger.
Earlier today the co-directors of the Miss California pageant – Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler – spoke to the media about what happens next with Carrie Prejean and her crown.
Thank you to The Hollywood Gossip for putting together a summary of today’s press conference so my being-the-bigger-person scrambled brain doesn’t have to:
The event began with Lewis reading a statement, during which he said Miss California officials played no role in choosing the judges for Miss USA, nor did they have any indication that Perez Hilton would ask Prejean about gay marriage.
Basically, he distanced the state pageant, and all subsequent remarks about Carrie, from her controversial beliefs.
Next, Lewis went to town on the National Organization of Marriage. He said it was a “shame, shame, shame, shame” that an outside organization would help a young woman violate her contract (which called for no interviews or affiliations without permission from Miss California officials).
Lewis blamed the organization for attaching itself to “any glimmer of an ally,” with no regard for the effect it would have on that individual’s life. He even called out the President of the National Organization of Marriage, Maggie Gallagher, for supposedly, personally pocketing 42% of the donations sent in for her cause.
Lewis and Moakler then introduced a PSA video of various beauty pageant contestants – from Miss Universe 1997 to Miss California USA 2007 – talking about “believing in love” and in respectfully disagreeing/voicing one’s opinion.
It was then time to announce Farrell as the Miss California Ambassador. Lewis emphasized how difficult it’s been for the pageant to plan events because Prejean has been out of contact. With Tami in place, the organization can fulfill its vision and no longer be hijacked by Prejean’s agenda.
While it was clear Lewis would love to fire Prejean, that decision rests in the hands of the Miss Universe organization and its founder, Donald Trump. Regardless of Trump’s decision tomorrow, Lewis said Farrell would fill in for Prejean at any appearance she can’t make.
Both Lewis and Moakler expressed shock and anger over how impossible it was to reach Prejean. She has a team of handlers and lawyers, they said, something no prior pageant winner had ever called for. Moakler also noted that Carrie’ platform of “protecting marriage” was not something ever discussed leading up to Miss California.
In the end, Lewis said her beliefs were not the issue at hand. Rather, the turning point came when Prejean moved forward with various media interviews, even though her message was clearly divisive. You can’t wear a title that says you represent everyone, Lewis said, yet go out of your way to be so polarizing.
Also, as he continually pressed, he can’t contact Carrie! She’s the state pageant winner and has refused to appear at – or even acknowledge – a series of Miss California events. That’s a problem.
There’s no difference between Carrie Prejean and Miss California USA, Moakler said. This is something Carrie has to learn, as she signed a contract that stipulated a set of obligations, all of which she is now ignoring.
And you know what else there’s no difference between? Carrie Prejean’s level of maturity and the maturity (or lack thereof) of my boyfriend’s friends! Both parties seem to have the common link of lying then backtracking and covering it up, too.
I would be worried that his friends might read this, but they’re too busy creating drama and chaos in their lives to give an interest in me and mine.

It’s late to post, but just found this article – so true. Good additional info. that the NOM org. keeps 42% of donations. Of course, we don’t know that for sure, but I can be sure they keep lots for themselves. I have tons of other info. about NOM that’s pretty scary, but will save it for now. Just google NOM and the Mormon Church for more info.
So, she’s out now, June 14, and hope the media turns their attention elsewhere. Ignoring her selfish self is the best remedy for all the drama and “I’m the victim” vendetta. As your article said, she probably didn’t even give a thought to gay marriage until all the media flurry, a big contract $$$ with NOM and a book deal/s. She’s so shallow – she can’t even speak or write a complete sentence all by herself. Without speech writers, she’s completely lost and has nothing to say, but “stupid stuff”
