I missed the finale of American Idol Season 8 tonight because I was out playing mini golf and arcade games with my boyfriend for our weekly date night, but thankfully I have fellow gossip hounds who watched every minute of it.
So seizure-face Kris Allen beat out squeal-rocker Adam Lambert to take home the title of American Idol 2009 – and I’m quite perplexed by the outcome. So, apparently, is Kris Allen, who upon winning said, “Adam deserves this. I’m sorry.”
Kris Allen totally bugs me when he sings – something happens to his facial expressions and it simply makes me uncomfortable. Just like when Jessica Simpson sings. Perhaps the two should do a duet and have a battle of the spastic singing faces.
Adam Lambert may have come in second, but he’s first in my book; there’s just no way that Adam won’t be a star. In fact, I wouldn’t be the least surprised if Adam Lambert got a recording contract before Kris Allen.
But that’s just me.
The American Idol finale of course included a whole bunch of performances. From Just Jared:
Top 13 [American Idol contestants] performed Pink’s “So What”
David Cook performed “Permanent”
Queen Latifah, Lil’ Rounds – “Cue the Rain” from her upcoming album, Persona.
Jason Mraz, Anoop Desai, Alexis Grace – “I’m Yours”
Keith Urban, Kris Allen – “Kiss A Girl”
Fergie – “Glamourous” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry”
Black Eyed Peas – “Boom Boom Pow”
Katrina Darrell (”Bikini Girl”), Kara DioGuardi – “Vision of Love” by Mariah Carey
Of course, Katrina wore a bikini on stage and clearly had gotten breast implants. At the end of the performance, Kara stripped down to bikini… but then quickly covered herself back up.
Cyndi Lauper, Allison Iraheta – “Time After Time” (Cyndi played the Appalachian Dulcimer)
Danny Gokey, Lionel Richie – “Hello,” “Just Go,” and “All Night Long.”
Adam Lambert, KISS – “Rock-n-Roll All Night”
Top 13, Carlos Santana – “Black Magic Woman” and “Smooth”
Steve Martin played the banjo to his new song “Pretty Flowers” from his album The Crow. Michael Sarver and Megan Joy sang.
Top 13, Rod Stewart – “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” and “Maggie May”
Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Queen – “We Are The Champions”

So now that American Idol is over and the (wrong) winner had been chosen, what do we watch?
‘So You Think You Can Dance’ of course! And we don’t have to wait long because it starts tomorrow (or today depending on when you’re reading this) – on May 21st at 8/7c.
This year FOX is airing a summer and a fall season so we get twice as much great dancing by the end of the year. So excited! I danced for over 10 years and loved every moment of it – until a stupid foot surgery resulted in a big toe that doesn’t bend, thus making dancing on my toes nearly impossible.
But I digress.
