Meredith Baxter Is A Lesbian – Family Ties Mom Comes Out

You know the old adage “when it rains, it pours”? Well let me just tell you that not only is it pouring in my life right now, it’s down right hailing; whoever said bad things come in threes was grossly mistaken.

That being said, I am trying my darndest to get out of this flippin’ life-is-crap storm. No point in boring you with the details, but let’s just say my mantra “everything happens for a reason” has been on overdrive.

Haha, is that vague enough for you? You’ll probably never guess what all the little things are that are making my perfect storm. If you leave a guess in the comment box, and you’re anywhere near right, I just might have a little prize for you.

In the meantime, here’s some breaking news that’s about as surprising as nuts in chunky peanut butter…..

Meredith Baxter, 62, is a lesbian. Yup, Alex P. Keaton’s mom is gay.

Any why, prey tell, is she coming out of the closet now? I mean, Family Ties has been off the air for 20 years.

Omg! Is it really twenty years? I’m getting real sick of all this crap popping up reminding me how old I’m getting.

I’m sure if you thought about it for a few moments you’d figure out Meredith Baxter’s exit from the closet timing.

Yes, Meredith Baxter is writing a book about her life.

Baxter, who was married three times and has five children, appeared on the Today show Wednesday December 2nd and had a little chat with Matt Lauer about how tabloids have threatened to make her private life a whole lot less private (buy publishing pictures of Meredith with her girlfriend), so she decided to beat the tabloids to the “she’s gay” punch.

“I’ve always lived a very private life,” the actress said. “To come out and disclose stuff is very antithetical to who I am. … [But] I did not want some tabloid to take the story and make it up — I wanted it to be in my own words.”

About 13 years ago, after three failed marriages and other unsuccessful relationships with men, Meredith Baxter had a brief romance with a woman. Then in 2005 the Family Ties matriarch began dating a general contractor by the name of Nancy Locke.

During the Today interview with Matt Lauer, Baxter went on to describe how she entered into a type of relationship she never thought she would be a part of.

“I got involved with someone I never expected to get involved with, and it was that kind of awakening, I never fought it because it was like, ‘Oh, I understand why I had the issues I had early in life.’ I had a great deal of difficulty connecting with men in relationships.”

Even though Baxter was considered “America’s Mom” in the 1980s and seemingly lived a heterosexual lifestyle, the long time actress says she was pretty honest with who she really was when it came to her own family.

“I said, ‘I think I’m gay,’ and my oldest boy said, ‘I knew,’” the actress said. “The support from my family and anyone close to me has been so immediate and unqualified.”

Here’s a little bit of something interesting….when Meredith Baxter goes to the “I used to like hot dogs but now I prefer sushi” meeting, she’ll be in the company of other great women like, most notably, actresses Anne Heche and Cynthia Nixon. Comedienne Wanda Sykes switched teams so to speak, as did the hilarious Carol Leifer.

If you’ve read my blog long enough you know I have no problem with people being gay – whether they were “always” gay, or whether they just figured it out – I don’t care either way, as long as they’re happy and are productive members of society.
