Steven Tyler Checks Self Into Rehab For Pain Pill Addiction

This sucks; 2009 will no doubt go down in Hollywood history as the year of prescription medication addiction.

And no one is immune.

Just days after several prescriptions were found around Brittany Murphy’s house upon her death, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has announced that he’s checking himself into rehab for help with an addiction to pain medication; a result of injuries sustained during performances over the past 10 years.

In a statement released to PEOPLE magazine, Steven Tyler states:

“With the help of my family and team of medical professionals, I am taking responsibility for the management of my pain and am eager to be back on the stage and in the recording studio with my bandmates Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford.”

“I love Aerosmith; I love performing as the lead singer in Aerosmith,” he adds. “I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of.”

While I am happy Steven Tyler is taking care of himself and healing in the way he needs to heal, it makes me sad that yet another celebrity is seeking treatment for pills.

Why can’t everyone just stick to weed and be done with it?
