Note to self: If nameless boyfriend ever proposes, immediately have pole dancing girl party.

Actually, I may not wait that long. I just might have a pole class for my birthday. Or Valentine’s Day. Or maybe next weekend!

Yup, Saturday’s bachelorette pole dancing party was a hit – and a twirl with a little kitty crawl thrown in.

Sedusa Studios (how great of name is that!?) has three sexy locations in California – one in the San Jose area, one in San Francisco, and one in Walnut Creek which opened just a few weeks ago. That’s the studio we went to; it’s tucked away in an unassuming building in the middle of downtown.

Pole dancing classes have become quite popular over the past couple of years, with a lot of the classes taking place at health gyms.

Sedusa Studios gave off no such vibes. You walk down a hall to a very nondescript “office” and enter into a dimly lit lobby with a reception desk, little couches, and apparel for sale. It felt more like a boudoir photo studio than a place to work out.

The studio has stilettos for you to borrow, but given my silly little foot affliction, I wasn’t able to participate in that part; but it was really fun seeing everyone in matching stripper shoes. I did, however, don a pair of shoes for the group photo.

Our instructor’s name was Alexis and she was a lot of fun; down-to-earth, non-judgmental, great at making all of us feel comfortable, and it was obvious she enjoys what she does.

From the lobby we moved to the studio room where we started with some floor exercises including getting in touch with ourselves and our senses while listening to music. Finding that personal place of sensuality is a key ingredient to successful pole dancing.

Next Alexis taught us some individual moves like pole squats, the “pinup” stance, crawling, and of course twirling. Then we put all the moves together and had our selves a sexy little routine.

First we did a run through with slow music, then with a fast song. And then we split into two groups and performed for each other.

I’m not gonna lie and sugar-coat things by acting like we all were perfect the first horse out of the gate – we could all use another class or two. But it doesn’t matter because it was so beyond fun. And that after all was the whole point – to just have fun.

By the way, I managed to not injure myself too badly. I have a couple bruises on my shins, but that’s about it. Some of the moves were a bit difficult for me, due to the socks I was wearing and my sensitive ribs, but I still had a great time.

And now for some pictures…..
