The Los Angeles Times is reporting that all-star college and pro quarterback Jack Kemp, who went on to serve nine House terms as secretary of Housing and Urban Development, as well as Robert Dole’s VP running mate in the 1996 presidential race, died Saturday evening of cancer at the age of 73. Before the 1996 presidential race Jack Kemp ran his own unsuccessful presidential campaign in 1988, running against George H.W. Bush; who would later appoint Kemp as his HUD secretary. The Kentucky Derby was today. I don’t necessarily care about the race itself, but I like seeing all the big hats. This year’s winner was a horse by the name of Mind That Bird, ridden by jockey Calvin Borel. At the start of the race Mind That Bird’s odds were 50-1. Singer, comedian, actor and impressionist extraordinaire Danny Gans died Friday morning at his home in Las Vegas. The exact cause of death is not yet known; he was 52.
